In December 2009, a large infestation of bark beetles occurred on several Pinus (Pinaceae) species in Uruguay. Among the species recorded in the southern region, several specimens were determined as belonging to the species Cyrtogenius luteus (Blandford) (Curculionidae:Scolytinae:Dryocoetini), a new hemisphere record.
