ABSTRACT. The bronze bug Thaumastocoris peregrinus is an invasive pest, affecting Eucalyptus plantations worldwide. Although its natural enemy Cleruchoides noackae has been tested for the biological control of this pest, other strategies like the use of native entomopathogenic fungi are needed. For this, native virulent fungal isolates should be selected, massively multiplied in an efficient way, and prepared to obtain a stable product. Isolates of native Beauveria bassiana obtained from T.

High- resolution melting (HRM) curve analysis:New approach used to detect blad and dumps in Uruguayan Holstein breed. [Análise da curva de alta resolucao (HRM):Nova abordagem usada para detectar blad e dumps em bovinos da raça Holandesa Uruguaia].

ABSTRACT. The widespread use of artificial insemination has allowed the expansion of genetic progress. However, it also brought consequences such as the expansion of lethal hereditary diseases and the increase in inbreeding. The object of this study was to establish a fast and sensitive molecular assay to detect bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency (BLAD) and deficiency of uridine monophosphate synthase (DUMPS) carriers in Uruguayan Holstein cattle by means of high resolution melting (HRM) curve analysis.

Soybean rust, caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is one of the most important foliar diseases threatening soybean production in Uruguay. Knowledge of pathogenic variation among Uruguayan rust populations is necessary to guide development of resistant soybean cultivars in national breeding programs. To assess pathogenic variation,12 P. pachyrhizi isolates were collected from fields across the country over a four-year period and were inoculated onto a set of 12 differential soybean genotypes.

The efficacy of chemical options to control Echinochloa crus-galli in dry-seeded rice under alternative irrigation management and field layout.

Alternative irrigation systems are viable options to reduce water footprint in rice; however, it could increase the difficulty of controlling weeds, as the water layer prevent weed emergence. Despite the environmental importance, there is no knowledge regarding effective chemical control of Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P. Beauv. under contrasting field layouts and irrigation systems in dry-seeded rice. In this study, we quantified the efficacy of some pre-emergence (PRE) and post-emergence (POST) herbicide sequences and tank mixtures to control E.

John Hodgson (1937?2018) is renowned worldwide as a passionate and principled researcher, dedicated to the study of interactions between grazing livestock and pasture sward, and to whole-system management of grassland. He published over 250 scientific outputs during his 50-year career, and inspired generations of grazing ecologists. Following his upbringing on a mixed-livestock farm in the Yorkshire Dales, John received BSc, PhD and DSc from the University of Leeds, UK.

Abstracts. Bovine genital campylobacteriosis (BGC) is a venereal infectious disease that affects reproduction. It is caused by the Gram-negative bacillus Campylobacter fetus subspecies venerealis (Cfv), which may include the biotype intermedius. The bull is a lifelong asymptomatic carrier and transmitter of the disease. In females Cfv may cause infertility and sporadic abortion. The objective of this study is to review and discuss methods for the diagnosis of BGC, its prevalence and economic impact in South America.

Species composition, toxigenic potential and aggressiveness of Fusarium isolates causing Head Blight of barley in Uruguay.

ABSTRACT:Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) is a major constraint to barley production that substantially reduces yield and grain quality. FHB is also a major food safety concern because FHB pathogens contaminate grain with trichothecenes and other mycotoxins. DNA sequence-based analyses and in-vitro toxin assessments were used to characterize the species and trichothecene chemotype composition of FHB pathogens on barley in Uruguay. F. graminearum was the dominant species (89.7%), and three other members of the F.
