ABSTRACT. The bronze bug, Thaumastocoris peregrinus, an Australian native insect, has become a nearly worldwide invasive pest in the last 16 years and has been causing significant damage to eucalypts (Myrtaceae), including Eucalyptus spp. and Corymbia spp. Its rapid expansion leads to new questions about pathways and routes that T. peregrinus used to invade other continents and countries. We used mtDNA to characterize specimens of T.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was the optimization and implementation of a reliable and economical molecular screening method for the detection of the mutant allele of CVM (complex vertebral malformation, c.559G>T, SLC35A3) by HRM analysis, as well as analyzing its existence in a representative sample of Holstein cows from the Milk Genomic DNA Bank of Uruguay. The optimization of the HRM methodology in the RotorGene?

Germination of Bromus auleticus after different treatments to release seed dormancy.

Abstract:Bromus auleticus is a cool season perennial C3 grass, recognised as a forage plant genetic resource and used for native grasslands restoration. It is native to the campos biome, found in southern Brazil, Uruguay and central Argentina. Its forage yield is comparable with tall fescue. Seed dormancy is a problem to evaluate germination and for commercialisation of this species.

A first worldwide multispecies survey of invasive Mediterranean pine bark beetles (Coleoptera:Curculionidae, Scolytinae).

ABSTRACT. Several European and Mediterranean species of pine bark beetles (Coleoptera:Curculionidae:Scolytinae) have become established in North America and the southern hemisphere, posing a novel threat to planted and naturally-occurring pine forests. Our objectives were to investigate (1) the occurrence and relative abundance of pine bark beetles in these regions, and (2) the trapping performance of different blends of multispecies lures.

Abstract:Soybean is an important crop in South America, and its production is limited by fungal diseases caused by species from the genus Diaporthe, including seed decay, pod and stem blight, and soybean stem canker (SSC). In this study, we focused on Diaporthe species isolated from soybean plants with SSC lesions in different parts of Uruguay. Diaporthe diversity was determined by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of ribosomal RNA and a partial region of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (TEF1?).

ABSTRACT. Forest biomass is an interesting option for bioenergy generation, however sustainability aspects should be carefully considered. In this context, the nutrient exportation is a key factor for reach a sustainable biomass production by an adequate harvest decision about what tree's fractions will export less nutrients of farms.

ABSTRACT. We estimated timber investment returns for 22 countries and 54 species/management regimes in 2017, for a range of global timber plantation species and countries at the stand level, using capital budgeting criteria, without land costs, at a real discount rate of 8%. Returns were estimated for the principal plantation countries in the Americas?Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Mexico, and the United States?as well as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, China, Vietnam, Laos, Spain, Finland, Poland, Scotland, and France.

Meta-analysis of global livestock urine-derived nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural soils.

Abstract: Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an air pollutant of major environmental concern, with agriculture representing 60% of anthropogenic global N2O emissions. Much of the N2O emissions from livestock production systems result from transformation of N deposited to soil within animal excreta. There exists a substantial body of literature on urine patch N2O dynamics, we aimed to identify key controlling factors influencing N2O emissions and to aid understanding of knowledge gaps to improve GHG reporting and prioritize future research.
