Modelling beef cattle production systems from the pampas in brazil to assess intensification options.

ABSTRACT:Traditional livestock productivity is hard to estimate, since it depends on a gamut of animal production indicators that are difficult to measure for many farms. Thus, we propose an analytical method for estimating productivity and understanding the importance of animal production indicators under different full-cycle cattle production systems in Brazil.
Expression of genes related to soil flooding tolerance in Soybeans.

ABSTRACT. The flooded environment brings about injuries to soybeans that vary depending on the adaptation ability of the genotype. Oxygen deprivation promotes the induction of the expression of genes related to glycolysis and fermentation pathways to maintain energy metabolism and, in addition to reducing-power consuming processes, act in the formation of adaptive structures and the maintenance of the redox status of the plant. The aim of this work was to evaluate the relative expression of genes related to soil flooding response in two contrasting soybean cultivars.
Los productores ganaderos que adoptan riego:análisis del cambio técnico. [Livestock farmers who adopt irrigation:analysis of technical
change]

Senecio spp. transboundary introduction and expansion affecting cattle in Uruguay:clinico-pathological, epidemiological and genetic survey, and experimental intoxication with Senecio oxyphyllus.

Abstract The genus Senecio is distributed worldwide, being responsible of poisoning in livestock and humans. Many species of Senecio have high invasion and expansion apacity, highly competitive with agricultural and native plant species, causing ecological damage. Particularly in Uruguay, poisoning by Senecio have grown exponentially to reach epidemic proportions.

Identifying climate and human impact trends in streamflow:A case study in Uruguay.

ABSTRACT. Land use change is an important driver of trends in streamflow. However, the effects are often difficult to disentangle from climate effects. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that trends in streamflow can be identified by analysing residuals of rainfall-runoff simulations using a Generalized Additive Mixed Model. This assumes that the rainfall-runoff model removes the average climate forcing from streamflow.

Economic impact of marker-assisted selection and rapid generation advance on breeding programs.

Abstract Plant breeding for the generation of cultivars adapted to local conditions has been an important and strategic concern of developing countries with agriculture-based economies. Considering economic constraints, breeders must improve genetic gain to increase the delivery of better cultivars with lower costs, through the implementation of molecular breeding and rapid generation advance.
