ABSTRACT. The occurrence of the exotic "granulate ambrosia beetle" Xylosandrus crassiusculus (Motschulsky) in Argentina and Uruguay is reported for the first time, documenting expansion in South America. Morphological characters are provided to allow distinction of this species from other similar ambrosia beetles. Molecular identification was also done on the basis of the 50 region of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene, obtained from a specimen from Argentina and compared with available "barcode" sequences in public databases.

ABSTRACT. Leaf removal is beginning to receive consideration for many growers as an important cultural practice for bunch rots control. It is normally applied after veraison and almost only on red varieties because of the high sunburn susceptibility of white grapes varieties under Uruguayan climatic conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the time and intensity of leaves removal impact on bunch rots and grapes quality on Sauvignon blanc.

Determination of young olive-tree water consumption with drainage lysimeters.

ABSTRACT. Information about olive-tree irrigation in sub-humid climates, as in Uruguay, is scarce. Water consumption of young olive trees, Arbequina variety, was measured for two years with six drainage lysimeters, protected from rain by an automatic rain-out shelter. Irrigation water volume and drainage of each lysimeter were measured daily and soil moisture was registered twice a week with neutron probe at four depths. Evapotranspiration (ETc) was calculated by volume balance.

ABSTRACT: Caudal vena cava thrombosis (CVCT) is an acute disease secondary to ruminal lactic acidosis and rumenitis with fatal outcome in cattle fed with a high-grain diet. The aim of this paper is to describe CVCT in an adult Holstein cow from a herd in Balcarce, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Clinical signs included dyspnea, weakness, recumbence, and hemoptysis, followed by death in 3.5 days. Important necropsy findings included multiple hepatic abscesses, a septic thrombus (4.0cm x 2.0cm) in the vena cava adjacent to the liver, and a 15cm hematoma in the right lung.

Lípidos, sodio y fibra dietética en harina de trigo y pan artesanal en Uruguay:aporte nutricional según recomendaciones para distintos grupos de población. ABSTRACT. This research assessed the proportion of whole-wheat flour in whole-wheat bread relative to the level mandated by law, as well as the content of lipids (Lip) and sodium (Na) in French bread, and of Lip, Na and total dietary fiber (TDF) in whole-wheat bread made in bakeries in Montevideo and Canelones, Uruguay. The percentage ofNa and TDF using both Adequate Intakes (Als) and Tolerable Upper Intake levels (Uls) were estimated in reference to recommended daily quantities.

ABSTRACT: The Pear Psyllid, Cacopsylla bidens (?ulc, 1907), is here reported from the Department of Canelones, the major region of pear production in Uruguay. Previous records of C. pyricola (Foerster, 1848) from Uruguay are misidentifications of C. bidens. Information is provided on the taxonomy and biology of this species. ©2017 Check List and Authors
