Integridade e estádio de maturação de sementes de Tannat, determinados pelo teste de submersão em água. [Integrity and maturity stage of Tannat seeds

determined by the water immersion test.]

ABSTRACT. Low germination rate of seeds is one of the main obstacles in the grapevine breeding programs. Problems related to reduced germination rates are attributed to dormancy, however, it is assumed that seed integrity may also be contributing to these unsatisfactory results. The objective of this study was to evaluate the integrity of Tannat grapevine seeds, collected at different stages of grape maturation, determined by a water submersion test, aiming to validate the potential of this technique to classify seeds in terms of integrity.

ABSTRACT. Micropropagation is a technique that allows to obtain quality plants, making it an important tool in the production of grapevine matrices. Composition of the culture media and plant growth regulators are commonly tested to adapt micropropagation protocols. The objective of this study was to test concentrations of Murashige & Skoog (MS) culture media and BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) and IBA (indolbutyric acid) plant growth regulators in the multiplication and in vitro rooting stages as part of the elaboration of a Chardonnay grapevine micropropagation protocol.

Heritability and segregation of resistance to brown rot in peach fruits. [Conferencie paper].

ABSTRACT. Brown rot caused by the fungus Monilinia fructicola is the most important disease in peach production areas of Brazil. The increased concern with the environment, consumers and workers' health, emphasizes control strategies other than fungicide applications. Among them genetic resistance is the most efficient. However, availability of resistant genotypes is still limited. Thus the main objective of this work was to seek sources of brown rot resistance, as well as to study the segregation, estimate the heritability and verify the possible existence of maternal effects.

Emergence percentage and speed of rootstocks for citriculture in south of Brazil.

ABSTRACT. The fact that Brazilian citriculture has focused on few rootstocks poses several phytosanitary risks to the culture and has made genetic improvement programs develop hybrid genotypes to be used as novel alternatives. This study aimed at evaluating the behavior of 42 different rootstocks regarding their emergence percentage and speed in weather conditions experienced in the extreme south of Brazil.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of different fattening systems from pasture to concentrate and temperament on animal welfare (AW) and meat quality (MQ). Eighty-four Hereford steers were randomly assigned to the following groups:T1, pasture (4% of animal live weight:LW); T2, pasture (3% LW) plus concentrate (0.6% LW); T3, pasture (3% LW) plus concentrate (1.2% LW); T4, an ad libitum concentrate treatment. Temperament was assessed by three individual tests:crush score, flight time, and exit speed, building a multicriterial temperament index (TIndex).

ABSTRACT:Neonate calves are usually handled a day after birth for navel care and identification. During this procedure the newly calved cows usually become agitated and, in some cases, exhibit aggressive behavior toward humans, increasing the risk of accidents for both, humans and animals. In order to understand the dynamic relationships between cow, calf, and cowhand?s behavior expressed in this particular situation, a conceptual model was built by using the system dynamics methodology.

ABSTRACT. We report the presence of a Pseudofusicoccum species associated with cankers showing gummosis in peach shoots for the first time. Identification was performed by sequence analysis of the concatenated ITS and EF1-α genes. The Pseudofusicoccum sp. was morphologically described and its pathogenicity was evaluated under laboratory conditions. © 2021, Australasian Plant Pathology Society Inc.

ABSTRACT. Nowadays, despite of being a typically temperate fruit crop, peach is found in subtropical and even tropical altitude zones, due to breeding efforts. Genetic knowledge and phenotypic and environmental parameters directly or indirectly influence the characters of economic importance in peach, and they are of great importance for breeding programs orientation.

Can pollen supplementation mitigate the impact of nutritional stress on honey bee colonies?

Abstract: One of the main driving forces of the Apis mellifera colony losses reported worldwide is the nutritional stress associated with monoculture areas. We previously demonstrated under field conditions that nutritional stress that occurred during the fall impacts honey bee colony strength and health in the short and long-term. Pollen supplementation to colonies during a nutritionally stressful period increased adult and brood populations and decreased the infection level of Nosema ceranae.
