ABSTRACT.- The Enteric Fermentation Flagship project, funded by the Global Research Alliance, was initiated in 2018 to investigate rumen microbiomes to predict methane emissions in bovine species. A major objective of this project was to implement a low-cost, high-throughput method for profiling the rumen microbiome in bovine species across different production stages and systems used around the globe.

ABSTRACT.- In Uruguay, methane (CH4) emitted from livestock sector contributes with 46.1 % of the total national emissions, where more than 70% of the beef finishing cattle are fed with forage varying the quantity or quality offered. As CH4 emissions are affected by quantity and quality of food intake, there is a need to quantify these changes. This work aimed to quantify the effect of different NDF content of forage diets on CH4 emissions from beef steers during the finishing stage.

Genetic improvement of resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) in sheep is a well-known strategy to reduce the negative consequences of GIN, whose control is limitecl by resistance to anthehnintics, on sheep health and performance.

Shearing ewes in early gestation improves lamb's weight at birth and weaning and survival. However, the longterm effects of early shearing on male progeny have not been studied.

RESUMEN. - El objetivo fue analizar las diferencias en la formación de procesos inflamatorios (abscesos) post-vacuna contra Fiebre aftosa con diferentes métodos de aplicación. Para esto, fueron evaluados tres métodos de vacunación: G1= inyección jeringa multidosis y aguja compartida; G2= sistema de inyección multiaguja (aguja individual por animal, desarrollo INIA); G3= jeringas y agujas descartables. El estudio se realizó sobre 930 terneros/as, observando una prevalencia general de procesos inflamatorios locales (abscesos) del 17%.
