Grain Yield Variation in Malting Barley Cultivars in Uruguay and Its Consequences for the Design of a Trials Network.

ABSTRACT. The efficiency of cultivar trial networks is an important subject in official cultivar testing. We investigated this efficiency for malting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in Uruguay, using data on 213 cultivars tested across an eight-year period at six locations. The variance-components approach was used to quantify the effects of years, locations, sowing dates and replicates on the precision of cultivar mean comparisons. The relationships among testing environments and genotypic adaptation patterns were explored via biplots.
Divergent selection for resistance to fusarium root rot in birdsfoot trefoil.

ABSTRACT. Persistence of birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) is limited by the interaction of several factors including root and crown diseases caused by Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. (Snyd. & Hans.). A greenhouse evaluation method was developed to screen and characterize birdsfoot trefoil germplasm for reaction to fusarium root rot. Plants were grown in 104-cell styrofoam seed starter trays. Roots were allowed to grow through the bottom of each cell into the soil in boxes below. Twelve weeks after seeding, roots were cut 6 cm below the crown and inoculated with a composite of F.

Modeling genotype x environment interaction for genomic selection with unbalanced data from a wheat breeding program.

ABSTRACT. Genomic selection (GS) has successfully been used in plant breeding to improve selection efficiency and reduce breeding time and cost. However, there is not a clear strategy on how to incorporate genotype ? environment interaction (GEI) to GS models. Increased prediction accuracy could be achieved using mixed models to exploit GEI by borrowing information from other environments. The objective of this work was to compare strategies to exploit GEI in GS using mixed models.
Characterization and analysis of a collection of Avena sativa L. from Uruguay
