ABSTRACT. Single-step genomic evaluation became a standard procedure in livestock breeding, and the main reason is the ability to combine all pedigree, phenotypes, and genotypes available into one single evaluation, without the need of post-analysis processing. Therefore, the incorporation of data on genotyped and non-genotyped animals in this method is straightforward. Since 2009, two main implementations of single-step were proposed.

ABSTRACT. Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) is an economically important crop, and its cultivation has expanded recently across temperate and subtropical regions of Brazil. Abstract: Anaplasmataceae includes the genera Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, Neorickettsia and Wolbachia, comprising a group of obligate intracellular bacteria. The genus Anaplasma has pathogenic species transmitted by ticks of veterinary and human health importance. Wild ungulates such as deer represent important reservoirs and amplifiers of Anaplasmataceae. The interaction between deer and domestic ruminants represents a serious problem due to the transmission of these pathogens through their ectoparasites.

ABSTRACT. Apple is one of the main deciduous fruits grown in Uruguay. The selection of early cultivars is one of the main objectives for INIA and other partners in the Uruguayan fruit sector. Since 2008, the apple cultivar ?Gala Fult?, obtained and protected by Los Sauces nursery (INASE Nº 1631) and owned by Agronomist Fernando Rocca, has been included in the National Register of Cultivars of the National Seed Institute (INASE) of Uruguay. ?Gala Fult? is an early red apple, obtained from a spontaneous mutation of a ?Royal Gala? apple bud that breaks bud and blooms earlier.

ABSTRACT. Allelopathy, the release of phytotoxins by plants, may be a key mechanism by which an invasive species displaces residents. However, methodological procedures are still questioned in the literature. We evaluated the phytotoxic effects of Cynodon dactylon and Eragrostis plana, the most invasive grasses of the Río de la Plata grasslands. Although allelopathy has been claimed as one of the possible mechanisms involved in the establishment and impact of these species, no empirical evidence has convincingly supported it.

Abstract: The objective was to evaluate the effect of the Holstein genotype (North American Holstein vs. New Zealand Holstein; NAH vs. NZH, respectively) in a pasture-based system on heat production (HP), energy partitioning between maintenance and production (milk and tissue) and energy efficiency during two different stages of lactation. Twenty-eight Holstein dairy cows (14 cows of each genotype) with similar calving date (May 5, 2018 ± 23 days) were managed in a pasture-based system and supplemented with one third of the predicted total dry matter intake as concentrate.

ABSTRACT. A series of non-spatial and spatial hedonic models of feeding and replacement cattle prices at video auctions in Uruguay (2002 to 2009) were specified with predictors measuring marketing conditions (e.g., steer price), cattle characteristics (e.g., breed) and agro-ecological factors (e.g., soil productivity, water characteristics, pasture condition, season). Results indicated that cattle prices produced under extensive production systems were influenced by all of predictor categories, confirming that found previously.

ABSTRACT. Some entomopathogenic fungi, such as Metarhizium spp. and Beauveria spp., closely interact with plants by colonizing the rhizosphere or growing endophytically inside root tissues. These characteristics increase the potential for endophytic entomopathogenic fungi to persist in the root system when used as biological control agents. The mechanism by which endophytic entomopathogenic fungi are capable to colonize the internal plant tissues is also influenced by plants and can be regarded as an adaptive protection acquired by plants against herbivorous insects.

ABSTRACT:Crab-eating (Cerdocyon thous) and Pampas foxes (Lycalopex gymnocercus) are wild canids distributed in South America. Domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) and wild canids may share viral pathogens, including rabies virus (RABV), canine distemper virus (CDV), and canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2). To characterize the virome of these wild canid species, the present work evaluated the spleen and mesenteric lymph node virome of 17 crab-eating and five Pampas foxes using high-throughput sequencing (HTS). Organ samples were pooled and sequenced using an Illumina MiSeq platform.

Abstract:Escherichia coli ETEC, EPEC, NTEC and STEC/EHEC pathotypes are often isolatedfrom bovine feces. The objective of this study was to detect 21 E. coli virulence genes in fecesfrom 252 dairy calves in Uruguay (149 with neonatal diarrhea --- NCD --- and 103 asymptomatic).Genes iucD, f17A, afa8E, papC, clpG and f17G(II) were the most prevalent (81.3%; 48.4%; 37.3%;35.7%; 34.1%; 31.3%, respectively). Genes eae, stx1and stx2 were poorly represented; 13/252animals harbored one or a combination of these genes.
