ABSTRACT. Acca sellowiana, known as feijoa or pineapple guava, is a diploid, (2n = 2x = 22) outcrossing fruit tree species native to Uruguay and Brazil. The species stands out for its highly aromatic fruits, with nutraceutical and therapeutic value. Despite its promising agronomical value, genetic studies on this species are limited. Linkage genetic maps are valuable tools for genetic and genomic studies, and constitute essential tools in breeding programs to support the development of molecular breeding strategies. A high-density composite genetic linkage map of A.

[Identification through sire catalogues analysis and molecular detection of brachyspina carriers in Uruguayan Holstein.]

Abstract: The most widely used rootstocks for pears are of the genus Pyrus and Cydonia. The objective of this study was to evaluate yield and fruit quality of 'Williams' pear trees on different rootstocks. The experiment was conducted at the Instituto Nacional de Investigación Agropecuaria INIA Las Brujas, Uruguay. 'Williams' trees were planted in 2003 and evaluated during four consecutive growing seasons starting in 2014/15. Rootstocks were 'OH×F40' and 'OH×F69' (Pyrus communis), 'BA29', 'EMC', and 'Adams' quince (Cydonia oblonga).

Clonal selections of 'Williams' pear in Uruguay. [Conferencie paper].

Abstract. Fruit quality of 'Williams' pear produced in different Uruguayan commercial orchards presents some variability. It is difficult to understand if these differences are due to environmental or genetic (different accessions) factors linked to the source of plant material used for propagation. To investigate if there are genetic differences among them, this research intended to evaluate the phenotypic characteristics of different sources of 'Williams' pear accessions under the same growing conditions. The trial was carried out in 2007 at INIA Las Brujas, Canelones, Uruguay.

Abstract. Pear is one of the most important temperate fruit crops. Uruguay aims at producing pears of high quality to reach regional markets as well as those of the Northern Hemisphere. Nevertheless, local climate variability and soil conditions frequently pose sanitary challenges for pear production, mainly in the south of the country, where the major pear producing area is located.

Abstract: Pear (Pyrus communis) is reasonably well-adapted to the average climatic conditions of southern Uruguay, but the climatic variables are not always agreeable for satisfactory production. The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of climatic factors, on yield components (average fruit weight and productivity) of 'Williams' pears on two different rootstocks ('OH×F40' and 'BA29'). The experiment was established in July 2003 at Instituto Nacional de Investigación Agropecuaria - INIA Las Brujas (34°67?S; 56°37?W).

Abstract: 'Williams', the most cultivated pear (Pyrus communis) in Uruguay, was grafted on:three P. communis rootstocks (OH×F333, OH×F51, OH×F97); one P. calleryana (D6); and two Cydonia oblonga (quince) rootstocks (BA29 and EMC). To evaluate the performance of these combinations in southern Uruguay, trees were planted in 1998 at the INIA Las Brujas. The crops considered in this report were from 2014 to 2018. Productivity was evaluated as well as average fruit weight, firmness, diameter, soluble solids, and number of fruits.

Influence of rootstocks on nutritional composition of pear fruits. [Conference paper].

Abstract: Pear is a fruit of great importance for human nutrition due to the organoleptic characteristics and nutritional composition. Its cultivation in Uruguay generally uses rootstocks for adaptation to the soil, productiveness and precociousness, but rootstock selection may also influence fruit quality, with the ability to change its chemical composition.
