(Effect of Storage Temperature on Carotenoid and Vitamin C Content in Red Grapefruit.)

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to determine if artificially reared male lambs differ from those reared by their mothers in their reproductive development and sexual behaviour during the first breeding season and in their serum testosterone to a GnRH challenge at the end of the first breeding season. Lambs were assigned to two experimental groups:1) artificially reared lambs, separated from their dams 24-36. h after birth (Week 0) and fed sheep milk until 10. weeks of age (group AR, n = 14); and 2) lambs reared by their dams until 10. weeks of age (group DR, n = 13).

Seasonal occurrence of Piezodorus guildinii on different plants including morphological and physiological changes.

ABSTRACT. Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood) is an important soybean pest in the Americas. Current knowledge about its ecology is limited. To implement holistic and sustainable pest management programs, it is necessary to understand how biotic and abiotic factors regulate its population. Seasonal occurrence on different host plants, and morphological (body morphometry and color) and physiological (lipid content and development of reproductive organs) changes in adults, were studied.

Genome-wide association mapping of agronomic traits and carbon isotope discrimination in a worldwide germplasm collection of spring wheat using SNP markers.

ABSTRACT. Association mapping has been proposed to identify polymorphisms involved in phenotypic variations and may prove useful in identifying interesting alleles for breeding purposes. Using this approach, a total of 382 cultivars and advanced lines of spring wheat obtained from three breeding programs (Chile, Uruguay and CIMMYT) were evaluated for plant height (PH), kernels per spike (KS), 1,000 kernel weight (TKW), grain yield and carbon isotope discrimination (Δ13C) and tested for genotyping-by-sequencing-derived SNP markers across the hexaploid wheat genome.

Ancestral relationships using metafounders: Finite ancestral populations and across population relationships.

ABSTRACT. Recent use of genomic (marker-based) relationships shows that relationships exist within and across base population (breeds or lines). However, current treatment of pedigree relationships is unable to consider relationships within or across base populations, although such relationships must exist due to finite size of the ancestral population and connections between populations. This complicates the conciliation of both approaches and, in particular, combining pedigree with genomic relationships.

Transcriptional regulation of ethylene metabolism in 'Marsh' and 'Star Ruby' grapefruits under chilling conditions.

ABSTRACT. Grapefruits are highly susceptible to developing chilling injury (CI) symptoms during postharvest storage at low temperatures. The role of ethylene in the response of citrus fruits to low temperature is still controversial and whether the hormone is a defense response to cope with the cold-induced damage is not fully understood. Moreover, little is known about the ethylene signaling cascade in coldsensitive citrus fruit under chilling conditions.

ABSTRACT. Premise of the study:We developed a bioinformatic strategy to recover and assemble a chloroplast genome using data derived from low-coverage 454 GS FLX/Roche whole-genome sequencing. Methods:A comparative genomics approach was applied to obtain the complete chloroplast genome from a weedy biotype of rice from Uruguay. We also applied appropriate filters to discriminate reads representing novel DNA transfer events between the chloroplast and nuclear genomes. Results:From a set of 295,159 reads (96 Mb data), we assembled the chloroplast genome into two contigs.
