Abstract:Amorimia spp. are sodium monofluoroacetate (MFA) containing plants causing sudden death in ruminants. In a previous study, Amorimia rigida caused abortion in one of the five pregnant sheep that received the plant suggesting that it may cause reproductive losses. This work aimed to study the embryotoxic and fetotoxic effects of Amorimia septentrionalis in goats in the Brazilian northeastern semi-arid region. The effects of A. septentrionalis on pregnancy were studied in 16 goats, divided into four groups according to their gestational period.

Abstract: We assembled an international barley panel comprising 282 entries from 26 countries with various levels of field resistance to leaf rust caused by Puccinia hordei. The panel was screened for leaf rust response with an array of pathotypes at the seedling stage, and at the adult plant stage in multiple environments (2013?2015) in Australia and Uruguay, and genotyped using > 13 K polymorphic DArT-Seq markers. Multipathotype testing in the greenhouse postulated the presence of seedling resistance genes Rph1, Rph2, Rph3, Rph4, Rph7, Rph9.am, Rph12, Rph14, Rph15, Rph19, and Rph25.

Abstract: Although fasciolosis is a relatively common disease, the productive and economic losses resulting from cattle with chronic fasciolosis are unclear. This paper aims to investigate the effect of fasciolosis on the parameters of carcass quality and discuss the hypothesis that the effects on weight differ among age ranges of cattle. For this, we analysed abattoir data of 30,151 bovines, from 928 farms, slaughtered in Uruguay in 2016, of which 33.9% (95% confidence interval (CI):27.3?41.1%) had Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke).

Abstract: Snake bite envenomations in farm animals are generally overestimated as the cause of mortality in rural areas in Latin America. However, most cases are based only on anecdotal information and assumptions, and lack diagnostic evidence. There are few proven reports of envenomation and death in horses caused by snakebites from members of the Bothrops genus (lancehead pit vipers).

Seasonal basal crop coefficient pattern of young non-bearing olive trees grown in drainage lysimeters in a temperate sub-humid climate.

ABSTRACT. Young non-bearing olive trees were grown in drainage lysimeters and their water consumption was measured over two consecutive yearly-experimental periods to analyze the effect ofseasonal variations on the basal crop coefficient (Kcb). Micro-lysimeter measurements were used to quantify soil evaporation (Es) and Es was subtracted from evapotranspiration (ETc) to determine transpiration. Monthly mean (Kcb) were determined as (ETc-Es)/ETo, where ETo is the FAO-PM grass-reference evapotranspiration, calculated from locally measured weather data.

ABSTRACT:Halal broilers for the market of Islamic countries make up 35% of exported broilers from Brazil. Halal production standards have several peculiarities and affect the market´s competiveness. The latter has numberless ways of interpretation and measurements that depend on the theoretical approach. Current study analyzes the characteristics of the Institutional Environment that limits a specific market and identifies the main barriers for the introduction of new companies.

Abstract: The aims of the present study were to:(i) evaluate the ultrastructural differences in the zona pellucida (ZP) surface between immature and mature bovine oocytes, and (ii) describe a new objective technique to measure the pores in the outer ZP. Intact cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) obtained from a local abattoir were immediately fixed (immature group) or submitted to in vitro maturation (IVM) at 38.5 °C for 24 h in a humidified atmosphere of 5% CO 2 in air (mature group).

Typology of beef production systems according to bioeconomic efficiency in the south of Brazil. [Tipologia de sistemas de produção de carne bovina de acordo com a eficiência bioeconômica no sul do Brasil]¨.

ABSTRACT:The objective of this study was to evaluate the bioeconomic efficiency of beef cattle production systems in the south of Brazil. A survey was conducted with 33 beef cattle farmers operating with complete cycle production systems in areas larger or equal to 900 ha. Answers were classified in two drivers, technology (TEC) and management (MAN), which were separated into subfactors with their respective components. Multiple correspondence analysis, Tukey test, cluster analysis, and Pearson correlation were the statistics procedures.
